Support The Reluctant Stylista and Win SM and Parisian GCs

  • Posted on April 25, 2012 at 10:05 am

It was a couple of weeks back when I first saw links of voting for fashion bloggers donned with Parisian bags and shoes shared on friends wall over Facebook. I was mobile then, so I did not actually get to vote until last week.

I’d have to say, Alex of The Reluctant Stylista is a sure stand out. Voting is on until April 28, 2012. The Top 3 Bloggers are to bag for themselves P20,000 worth of gift certificates from SM and Parisian Shoes and Bags. What’s in it for us voters? If our chosen blogger wins, we get a chance to win GCs ourselves!

Hair Accessory Find at Ben Thanh Night Market in HCMC, Vietnam

  • Posted on April 4, 2012 at 3:02 pm

Kikay Corner is back from Vietnam and Cambodia! T’was indeed a very relaxing and enjoyable time for me and my family! Thanks to those who have joined my Limited Edition RIIR Tree Bag by Rajo Laurel Giveaway. You still have a few more days to go and I’ll raffle off the winner.

Meanwhile, here is a hair accessory find at Ben Thanh Night Market. And because our hotel was practically a stone’s throw away from the famous Ben Thanh Market, we made sure we did not waste time and checked it out on our first night in Vietnam. :-)

Hair Find at Ben Thanh Market  for  VND 100,000 (approx. $5)

Sure it does not look so souvenir-y at all. But I cannot help but be amazed at the different things you can do with it. For all I know this particular hair accessory might even be readily available here in Manila. I’m sharing it anyway because I’ve been loving it so far. The heat of the summer season calls for our hair to stay up. Never mind if I was told against it as it said to leave permanent wave marks on my poor locks.

Kikay Corner Giveaway: Limited Edition RIIR Tree Bag by Rajo Laurel

As promised, I’m giving away this Limited Edition RIIR Rajo Laurel Tree Bag. If you are not yet familiar with RIIR, it stands for Rags2Riches. This Limited Edition RIIR Tree Bag by Rajo Laurel looks unassuming when folded. Yes, a feature similar to Longchamp bags.

But it sure is huge enough to serve as a weekender bag.

The Tree Bag Project is an initialtive of rags2riches in collaboration with Mr. Rajo Laurel, AntHill Fabric Gallery, the Indigenous weavers of Bagued, Abra, the Payatas women of rags2riches. Wood Craftsmen of Pardo, Cebu and the San Carlos Development Board, Inc.

My Fossil Stella Resin Watch

  • Posted on January 31, 2012 at 8:08 pm

I was never exactly a fan of U.S.A. made watches. That was, until my husband gifted me with this Fossil Stella Pearlized White with Gold-Tone. It was so pretty, who cares if it’s not Swiss made. I was over the moon with excitement!

This Fossil Stella Resin Watch was my hubby’s advance Valentine present. This definitely surpasses my other Technomarine boyfriend-inspired watch in the design department.

TOMS’ Advocacy: One for One

  • Posted on November 22, 2011 at 1:23 pm

With every pair you purchase, TOMS will give  pair of new shoes to a child in need.  One for One.  —-> www.TOMS.com

I am beyond impressed. While I know that a lot of brands are tapping into different advocacies, this One for One is something else entirely. Most brands will just give a minute amount of their sales. But TOMS is at it One for One. That’s more than just zero guilt when buying their product. I love, love, love it! I haven’t bought a pair of TOMS yet. But this is definitely giving me the go signal. Especially after seeing the wedges in TOMS Holiday Collection.

TOMS has given away 1,000,000 pairs of shoes as of September 2011! This is with the help of TOMS NGO partners which are quite a few. This is understandable for the company to sustain their advocacy.

Above are TOMS NGO Partners in the Philippines. It is lovely to see familiar Christian organizations in the list like GCF and YWAM. :-)

As I was downloading videos from youtube, here is what I saw –> a sneak peek on how TOMS go about their task.

Tory Burch Ella Nylon Tote

  • Posted on October 14, 2011 at 10:45 pm

The first time I saw the Tory Burch Ella Nylon Tote in Yellow, my eyes were pretty much fixed on it. Essentially, a weekender bag in my opinion. With the stuff I lug around with every time I leave the house, I thought the size is perfect for me! Yes, it NOT Manila-friendly. It does not  zip close, you see. But even that did not stop me from getting hold of it.

The color of this Tory Burch Ella Nylon Tote is almost golden yellow. It’s capacious enough to accommodate all my stuff and some. The material is nylon. Hence, the name, I suppose. The handles, corner portions and the medallion are made of leather. Before purchasing, I read a review of one who bought from Bloomingdales that the leather was not exactly the best material. Hoping my being careful in handling it is going to make a difference.

Shawna’s review can be found here:
When I first bought the bag, I was thrilled – my first Tory! But after a week of use, I noticed the handles fraying beyond belief and the bag was literally coming apart. I went to Bloomie’s after this had happened, and a product analyst was there. She told me she is embarrassed to sell this bag because the quality is not up to par! I exchanged it for the Tory Nylon tote. I love this one! The quality is much better and it is much sturdier. I would highly recommend the Tory Nylon tote instead!

Tory Burch zipper pull. I love the deep zippered pocket that houses my valuables.

The size is a dream! It can serve as a working bag that can accommodate a laptop and some (essentially the rest of your office stuff, if you must). It can pass for a diaper bag or a weekender bag even. The huge medallion face is fun too. And if you want to be discreet, you can always wear it with the medallion facing your body instead.

The need to travel light

  • Posted on October 13, 2011 at 11:26 am

Truth be told, as a self professed kikay, the major contributor to my purse’s weight isn’t much of my beauty stuff but my can’t-leave home-without-gadgets. I make sure the makeup kit I don with me is as lightweight as can be. This is why I recently got hold of the Charm Pocket Brush Set, which I will blog about later.

Beadaholic

  • Posted on August 5, 2011 at 11:32 am

Fashion is referred to anything that is modern and current particularly in the outside look of an individual – clothes, accessories, shoes, etc. Styles are continuously changing through the years. As a matter of fact, if you would look closely, designers today make their designs based on the former trends that made a big impact. For someone who was never big on fashion, I just about wear what I want and am comfortable in. I am wired in such a way that I resent being dictated on what I can and cannot wear. So there. But with beads, I am a beadaholic through and through. :-)

JML’s Turbo Cleaner stain remover took care of my Le Pliage’s ink stain

  • Posted on July 15, 2011 at 2:45 pm

It was a couple of months back when I found that one of my Le Pliages has acquired this stubborn stain. There was no way I can figure out where it came from. It sure looked like it was ink to me and it was too brutal for me to ignore.

Specific Care Instruction for Longchamp Le Pliage:

Polyamide fabric with induction inside trimmed in cowhide leather
To maintain your product, apply with a soft brush Longchamp colorless cream regularly to leather areas.
To remove dirt, clean the whole lining using a cloth or a soft brush, with water and neutral soap (avoid water spilling over leather parts when cleaning).

Even the care instruction that came with the bag did not help. So I did what any diligent kikay would do. I checked out stores and places for stain removal stuff for the bag. Something that is safe for polyamide fabric, to be exact. Lo and behold, I found one of my favorite household brands carrying just what I need, in one of the malls I frequent. How convenient!

It claims to contain no harmful chemicals and is skin safe — 100% Eco Safe. Removes stubborn stains and works on fabric and leather. I got it for only P299.  The huge stick came with a mini. Something I can just have in my purse for emergency purposes.  :-) I honestly did not quite expect it to work so beautifully. We all know that ink stains can be as stubborn as can be. But it did! I love that I can use this around the house and practically everything that needs stain removing. :-)
