French Tips Eco Chic Nail Salon’s Grand Launch at SM Aura Premier

Kikay Corner at French Tips Nail Salon

French Tips Eco Chic Nail Salon opens in SM Aura.

Ever since I have embraced going green and started choosing non-toxic things, from the food we eat, to home products, to things we slather our bodies with, it has remained to be a challenge to find the right place to cater this lifestyle.

Take nail salons, for instance. It wasn’t until recently that I chanced upon a true blue, eco-friendly nail prettifying corner. I cannot be more thrilled to get first dibs on the nail salon offerings of French Tips, as I swung by to immerse myself to¬†some nail pampering at French Tips in SM Aura Premier during its grand launch.

Product Feature: Wen Cleansing Conditioner by Chaz Dean

My leaning has always been towards products that are naturally driven, and as for shampoos, I prefer them SLS/SLES free. For this very reason, I get giddy with excitement when I discover beauty products like Wen Cleansing Conditioner by Chaz Dean. What’s sweet about this is I actually get first dibs! Yay! This product won’t be out in the market until sometime in May. ūüôā

Wen Cleansing Conditioner (1)

Wen Pomegranate Cleansing Conditioner

What’s so wrong about regular shampoos, you ask? Most commercial shampoos we grew up with actually have harsh detergents and SLS/SLES that strip away the natural oil from our hair causing our it to go dry, fall, frizz and quick to manifest aging.

Chaz Dean, a celebrity-stylist based in the USA in cooperation with Guthy Renker (makers of Proactiv Solution) worked together to formulate a new concept in hair cleansing, WEN¬ģ Cleansing Conditioner. Wen Cleansing Conditioner is a 5-in-1 formula. This all in one formula takes the place of your:

  1. Shampoo
  2. Conditioner
  3. Deep Conditioner
  4. Detangler
  5. Leave-in Conditioner

Palladio Herbal Lipstick in Roseberry

It was when I was about to run out of my all time favorite organic lipstick two months ago that I discovered Palladio Herbal Lipstick. Although I have a handful of lipstick in my makeup kit, my default lipstick will always be that of herbal or organic ones. It came with my mother’s instinct. As much as I have always loved pretty stuff, I just got to make sure that I don’t transfer lead or any harmful ingredients when I kiss my kid. That said, I’ve switched to all natural lipsticks when my son was born. That’s more than 7 years ago. My first Palladio product was the Natural Rice Powder which I first blogged about in 2009, which I was not very satisfied with. I also blogged mentioned Palladio concealer in 2011. Palladio Herbal Lipstick is my hands down favorite.

Palladio Herbal LipstickAs for the number of herbal and organic lipsticks I’ve tried, there’s only but a few. Since there are only a limited brands of this kind. ¬†This most recent discovery, I am very pleased with. I tried Human Nature’s mineral lipstick but I am just not happy with it. It moisturizes all right. But it does not have the pigmentation and the lasting effect I require of my default lipstick.

Palladio Roseberry

A contoured tip that practically ensures precise application.

The good news is Palladio Herbal Lipstick is also very affordable. Compared with the only all natural lipstick I have been using this past 7 years, this is half its price. Palladio Herbal Lipstick only retails for P350 (approx $8.75). I love how Palladio herbal lipstick glides on the lips. (more…)

Nature Republic: The New (Korean) Make Up, Skin Care Brand in Town

Nature Republic

As my readers would have noticed by now, my preference, when it comes to skin care brands, are always towards the natural ones. I have used a few Korean brands to date but Nature Republic is by far, my favorite from the bunch. It is also considered one of the Korea’s fastest growing skin care and cosmetic brands.

Nature Republic Aloe Vera Soothing Gel

What I truly love about Nature Republic is that they are known for using only the best natural ingredients sourced from all over the world. This brand employs the latest technology to come up with the finest products unsurpassed by others.

Nature Republic Aqua Max Moisture

One of Nature Republic’s pride is the Super Aqua Max Line. This line is composed of super hydrating gel type creams formulated with seaweed extract and Sapporo water from Japan. The oily skin formula contains 30 kinds of¬†pure maritime plants that deliver immediate hydrated purification with no sticky feeling. The dry skin formula feels like putting on a 24 hour hydration mask while the one for combination skin refreshes the face‚Äôs T-Zone and moisturizes the U-zone. It creates a thin layer on the face for protection against the environment and to maintain moisture.

The Super Aqua Max Soothing Balm comes in a convenient stick form. It is infused with sea water, enriched with minerals and leaves the skin hydrated for seamless make-up application. Use it before or after make-up application. It has a rich yet lightweight formula that continuously releases moisture, skin conditioners and nutrients throughout the day. Use it from head to toe for spot treatment of dry areas.

Collagen Dream Trial Kit

Please stay tuned for my review of Nature Republic’s Collagen Dream Kit. This is on queue and is up next as soon as my Kiehl’s Acai Damage Correcting Moisturizer runs out. I am pretty excited about this kit since its formula zeroes in on wrinkle fighting and whitening. It uses highly concentrated soluble collage water and SYNiorage, an active peptide that gives mature skin radiance and firmness. It has Acai Berry rich in Omega 3, 6, 9 and Vitamin E. It contains Orange Water from Italy which is abundant in vitamins and minerals.

Nature Republic Snail Therapy

Snail Therapy, anyone? Apparently, the Snail Therapy line of Nature Republic is its most premium line. It contains replicated snail mucus that provides skin whitening, restores tissue, fights wrinkles, lessens scarring and promotes overall skin recovery. It contains arbutin that enhances whitening and adenosine that reduces wrinkling, roughness and dryness. It has a clean, pleasant smell and light, creamy texture perfect for use during the day or night.

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Pure Castile Liquid Soaps

One of the many precious finds I have from Healthy Options is this –Dr. Bronner’s Magic Pure Castile Liquid Soap. My favorite being, Lavender. Too bad the biggest they have it is in this size. At least from the Healthy Options branches I have visited so far. The bigger the bottle, the more savings I get. I honestly have not found a soap, whether solid or liquid that is better than Dr. Bronner’s Magic soaps. It’s just that, they don’t really come very cheap.

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Pure Castile Liquid Soap in 240ml retails for P495. That’s the price I last got it for, at least. I noticed the last time I bought my Apple Cider Vinegar supply from Healthy Options at The Fort, they hiked a lot of the prices up. Not sure if the hike applies to all products they sell.

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Pure Castile in Peppermint 946ml P1,125

Here is what I love most about Dr. Bronner’s soaps – all natural ingredients! ¬†A combination of organic extra virgin coconut, olive, jojoba and hemp oils, together with pure essential oils, creates a unique soap that cleans effectively without being aggressive and produces a velvety-lather that leaves the skin silky-smooth and refreshed. Unlike most “organic products” that are sold locally,¬†Dr. Bronner’s soaps are completely biodegradable and vegetable-based.

Made with Certified Fair Trade and Organic Oils
Multi-Purpose: 18-in-1 Uses
No Synthetic Foaming Agents, Thickeners or Preservatives

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap’s Peppermint Fragrance is the most popular fragrance of Dr. Bronner’s soap line. The peppermint essential oil tingles the body and clears the mind. It has its own therapeutic abilities on its own. I’d say this is perfect for our very humid weather. I love the fresh and minty after bath feel that it gives.

The Lavender fragrance is designed for the tired and stressed out souls. It effectively calms the nerves as it never fails to soothe my body every single bath. This makes bathing so much fun! It is my perfect bathing essential just before bedtime.

Avalon Organics Vitamin C Hydrating Cleansing Milk and Renewal Facial Cream

In my attempt to rest my skin from using a product that I love but is kind of drying my skin out, I grabbed a hold of Avalon Organics Vitamin C Hydrating Cleansing Milk and Renewal Facial Cream from my favorite health and beauty store, Healthy Options.

First off,  as per package, Avalon Organics Vitamin C Hydrating Cleansing Milk is a soap-free cleansing  agent with antioxidant protection. What it claims:

  • Skin Nourishing
  • Antioxidant Intensive
  • Sun-Aging Defense
  • For Normal to Dry Skin
  • 100% Vegetarian Ingredients
  • No Animal Testing
  • Paraben Free
  • EU Compliant

Hydrating Cleansing Milk has Vitamin C, Lemon Bioflavonoids and organic White Tea gently removes impurities while moisturizing the skin and protecting its natural balance from free radical damage generated by sun exposure.

All of what is said in the package are more than fine by me. I love its being vegan and does not contain all the other ingredients a lot of our usual and locally available beauty products have. (more…)

Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel Pore Perfecting Toner

One of the items I have a photo of from my first Health Options post was that of Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel Pore Perfecting Toner. More than a couple of months since I started using it and I think my skin is loving it.

Dickinson’s Witch Hazel Pore Perfecting Toner 2 fl.oz. (59ml) retails for P59 (approx. $1.40)

I have since been using¬†Dickinson’s Witch Hazel Pore Perfecting Toner in place of Nautreal’s Facial Cleanser. The ingredients of the latter being¬†Licorice Extract, Mulberry Extract and Witch Hazel. My skin is finding the former to be friendlier and non-drying. Somehow after a couple of months of using Nautreal Facial Cleanser, I noticed my face becoming drier than usual.

¬†Dickinson’s Witch Hazel Pore Perfecting Toner is non-drying and good for all skin types. It gently cleanses and conditions pores to maintain clear, smooth and balanced skin. ¬†What I love best about it is it is 100% All Natural. ¬†This toner is designed to:

  • refine pores
  • remove and control oil
  • soothe irritation
  • locks in moisture

Directions for use: Use daily after cleansing or before applying skin treatments. Moisten a cotton ball or pad and apply to face and neck. For best results, use in the morning to prepare and evening to repair for naturally soft and beautiful skin.

Avalon Organics Botanicals – Biotin B-Complex Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner

Now that the¬†Apple Cider Vinegar wonder¬†has taken cared of my falling hair issue, ¬†the quest to thicker locks is on and Avalon Organics Botanicals – Biotin B-Complex Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner were right there for the picking when I was doing my “organic” Healthy Options¬†shopping last month.

First off, I’ll tell you what Avalon Organics Biotin B-Complex Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner DO NOT CONTAIN:

  • sodium lauryl or laureth sulfate
  • parabens
  • harsh preservatives or grapefruit seed extract (there are reports that some develop thrush from this)

Avalon Organics Biotin B-Complex Thickening shampoo and conditioner have 100% vegetarian ingredients. Of course, I still was not sure if it will deliver when I got hold of it. Three weeks since I first used it and I don’t think I can conclude just yet.

My first impression was that it was extra rough on my hair. I even thought the “thickening” was an illusion because my hair was out of sorts after my first use. I swear I saw a few falling hairs too after having not seen a whole bunch since I used the Apple Cider Vinegar concoction. That was on the first few times I used the shampoo. But not as bad as before. But now it has mellowed a tad. So methinks I’m giving this product a shot. Two months, tops.

Healthy Options love!

So I have been frequenting Healthy Options for a while now but I have not really been sharing a lot of my discoveries. For some reason, they have piled up one after the other that I simply just let my laziness to blog get the better of me.

The inspiration now came from my logging in to my Healthy Options account and finding out that I’m 36 points away to being a Gold Card Member! Wooohooohoo!!!! Our family has been getting hold of our organic supplies from Healthy Options for sometime now. I am slowly but surely, transitioning our home to “organic.” As geeky as that may sound, I really would rather not have anything to do with parabens, sls/sles and all those crap. ¬†So far, our bathroom is 99% organic. Which is a great start. Oh well, I have been in this “starting” business for years now. But hey, organic stuff aren’t cheap. So there.

A few of my Healthy Options beauty products staples: ¬†Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel, Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque, Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap 18-in-1 Hemp Lavender Pure Castile made with organic oils, ¬†Dessert Essence Jojoba Oil, Alba Botanica Un-Petroleium Plant Powered Lip Care w/ SPF18 Lip Balm in Cherry, Alba Botanica Terra Tints in Bloom SPF8.

Apple Cider Vinegar for Hair Loss, Who Would Have Thought!

Apple Cider Vinegar for Hair Loss, Who Would Have Thought! I was never good at typing out titles for my posts, but those words right there just about spell out how I feel right now, even after a couple of weeks of seeing for myself the wonders of my holy grail for hair loss – my ever persistent hair issue. Yes, I’ve tried a bunch of hair loss shampoos including Phytocyane by Phyto Paris and Human Nature’s Strengthening Shampoo and Conditioner. With Phytocyane, my hair loss became worse and as for Human Nature, no improvement at all. ¬†But the latter was not put to waste since both my boys are now using SLS free toiletries as well. Yay!

My discovery of Apple Cider Vinegar being an effective hair loss remedy came by chance. ¬†I have been suffering from some form of acid reflux since last month. I cannot seem to take in anything without feeling nauseated. I have been eating small portions of food frequently since. Because I wanted to steer clear of having to go visit the doctor and be given tons of synthetic medications and antibiotics, I just thought I’d do my homework by searching for a natural way to cure my tummy issues. Apple cider vinegar or ACV as health forum people would have it, came up more than once. It kind of did not make sense to me at first since my issue is towards hyperacidity and the cure for it is to treat it with another kind of acid? I know! My exact thoughts! But then again, it has been working and has kept me out of the doctor’s clinic.
