Archive for make up

Truth be told, as a self professed kikay, the major contributor to my purse’s weight isn’t much of my beauty stuff but my can’t-leave home-without-gadgets. I make sure the makeup kit I don with me is as lightweight as can be. This is why I recently got hold of the Charm Pocket Brush Set, which I will blog about later.

In all my makeup wearing years, I have never exactly understood the significance of make up brushes until my first day of Personal Makeup Course at Maquillage Professionnel last month. Before Charm Travel Pro V.3 Makeup Brush Set, I used to own a decent one that I bought on a whim but never got to use as much. All because I really was clueless how. I tried to use them for what they are for (thanks to YouTube), but always find myself going back to my good ‘ol fingers to do the job. Not this time. I have come to acquaint myself to each and every brush. Thanks to my teachers over at Maquillage Professionnel, there really is nothing like a professionally done canvas.  Just to give you an idea, the hubby is so convinced even that he allows me to apply on him his BB cream (it’s his SPF cream) with the stippling brush. Even he can see the difference of how much smoother and more even the application is using the stippling brush.

The Charm Travel Pro Makeup Brush Set comes in this sophisticated packaging which practically spells all the fab places you can bring your kit to. It’s way too pretty I can’t bring myself to stash it in the bin despite its now battered corners.

Its pretty color screams to be oh so me! If you haven’t noticed, I have had this hotpink watermark for my photos in this blog and it has been my color since forever! The color itself spells love for me. It was days after Sophie handed me this that I actually got to use them and fell in love with them since. Before I show you the picture of how it looks like nowadays (I’ve practically used and abused the set since I got hold of them), here are photos I took when it was still brand spanking new. It was only during the recent Personal Makeup Course that I took at Maquillage Professionel that I learned to appreciate the use of makeup brushes. Before that, I was a sponge/puff girl through and through. Leaving my brushes stashed away since forever. Now that I have the Charm Travel Pro v3, I honestly can’t figure out how I managed all my make up wearing years without these brushes. My review post about it soon. :-)

I always knew Kanebo was a good brand, so when this makeup sponge cost me P300 (approx.$7), I was certain that there is a good reason behind it.  The fine print on the package is in Japanese. Save for the brand Kanebo, the only English words on the package are “make up sponge” and the sticker that reads who its local distributor is. Go figure!

The Elite Model’s Fashion make up sponges are cheap. It claims to be recommended by Elite Models. Which by the way, I don’t buy. :-P It’s not cheap cheap, like most disposable sponges are. But the package does come cheap with two sponges for only P165 (approx. $4). It is the latex kind. I bought this before I got hold of my Kanebo sponge last June, which I figured as non-latex. Elite latex sponges are not exactly my favorite. It can be an alternative. Can do the job, even. But it’s not the best, for sure.

I confess, my love affair with my favorite drugstore brand, Revlon, goes wayback.  I have a few Revlon posts to prove that: Revlon Khol in Midnight Blue, Revlon Colorstay Eye makeup, Revlon Warehouse Sale, et.al. I have since appreciated other drugstore brands like Elf and Maybelline. But it was not until my one week Personal Makeup Course in Maquillage Professional last week did I found out what I was missing. Because I was not born with enough brow hairs to even have them shaped, I am left to fashion to them manually every time. So the major keys are the skill to properly shape the brows and the tool/s that is/are used. My mom has tried to convince me time and again to get a tattoo done like hers to save myself the trouble of having to shape them every time. There is a better alternative to that nowadays – the Eyebrow Resurrection that Brow Haus is offering — I will blog about that later. As for the tattoo, that won’t be an option for me.

A great alternative to Make Up For Ever’s Eyebrow Corrector #0 is the Revlon Brow Fantasy Pencil & Gel in Brunette (pictured above) which retails for PhP 575 (approx. $14).

So during my course at Maquillage Professionel last week, I totally fell in love with Make Up For Ever‘s Eyebrow Corrector #0. We were told that all students are entitled to 10% off in the duration of our class. But the thing is, both their outlets in Serendra and Shangri-la have run out of the Eyebrow Corrector #0 and #2. I used both interchangeably during the course.

Make Up For Ever Eyebrow Corrector (above photo), which sells for more than PhP 1,200 (approx. $31) locally is the best that I have used to date. When I went to their Serendra outlet, I was told that it might not be until September til they have new stocks. And there was no way I was waiting until then. So I went to every possible beauty stall in the mall looking for the best alternative. Revlon is great at offering dual ended products – just like the Revlon Matte Luxurious Kohl Eyeliner. It was some months ago when I stalled on buying a similar deal on Makeup Class from Deal Grocer, I found out too late that the deal was already sold out. Imagine my excitement when this deal prompted on my inbox. I sure grabbed a hold of it first thing yesterday.

Yes, that ’1 bought’ on the counter was moi! I know, I’m pretty stoked!  As of writing 20 bought, 78 left. Read the rest of this entry »

It was early this week when one of our young ladies in church sent an SMS about not being ready for prom. Rachel dear is practically left to fend for herself and without resources to rent a gown or a decent cocktail dress, let alone have her makeup done in a salon, she was basically cramming for the upcoming once in a lifetime party most students in middle school look forward to. I told her to meet me a couple of hours before her prom in church.  I was able to rummage and find some nice dresses she could pick out from. I also told her I can do her makeup. The bubbly Rachel came to church ready to be fixed up. Here are her before and after pictures.

Now I don’t exactly do makeup services professionally. But I’m actually pleased on how Rachel looked after I was done with her makeup. Here are the products that I used:

I just love e.l.f.’s philosophy, “Every woman should have the opportunity to participate in innovation, without sacrificing her budget.” Ever since my friend, Iris introduced me to this brand, which I did not bother with previously, I had, not once regretted a purchase.  My confession of confessions: I have practically dropped the well known brands I’ve been using for e.l.f.

As parties comes in left and right this holiday season, it is just right to ramp it up, while you are already at it, looking fab and pretty. Last Saturday, Watsons treated us and some chosen BDO Prestige Cardholders to a grand Holiday Glam Makeover by Maybelline and L’Oreal.

The makeover workshop was jumpstarted by Maybelline New York’s Senior Makeup Artist, Harold Santos. He worked on the model and taught us some basics on the 60’s look. Particularly the winged eye look.

Maybelline Colorsensational in Coral Sunrise

It took me quite a bit until I decided I’d go for this shade.  I would have opted to grab two or three, but since I haven’t tried this particular line of Maybelline just yet, I wouldn’t want to risk it.  My lips have a tendency to dry out, even chap, when I use some brands, especially L’Oreal. Yes, inasmuch as I love the colors and how they last.
