It was more than a month ago when I decided to have my hair undergo Keratin Smoothing Treatment or what is more commonly called nowadays as Brazilian or Express Blow Out or Permanent Blow Dry at Henri Calayag Salon.
Before the treatment
As what I would usually do with my previous reviews, I had to sit this Keratin Smoothing Treatment out for a month at least just so I know I will be providing an accurate review. This was a birthday treat for my brittle and unmanageable hair.
My visit to Henri Calayag prior to this, I was told several times over by Richard (Junior Creative Director-above photo) how dead my hair was and there is no way on earth it can survive another rebonding treatment and not fall off on me. Digital Perming is also out of the question. No more harmful chemicals from there on out. All I really needed was sort of revive my hair back to “normal” and I was willing to try anything. I have had badly damaged hair for as long as I can remember and brushing has been a chore if not for the anti-frizz serums that I used.
The Permanent Blow Dry/Brazilian Blow Out/Express Blow Out procedure was way simpler than that of rebonding.
1. My hair was shampooed with Coppola Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy Clarifying Shampoo twice.
2. Hair was blown dry 100%.
3. Coppola Hair Treatment Solution was applied all over my hair.
4. Hair was covered for 20 minutes.
5. Blown dry 100%.
6. A special flat iron was used to go through sectioned parts of my hair.
After the treatment
Then that was it! Probably took, give or take, an hour and a half. There are after care instructions that I have to take note of though.
1. Do not wash hair for 3 days or 72 hours.
2. Avoid getting any moisture in the hair.
3. If hair gets wet, blow dry immediately.
4. Wear hair down. No pins, clips, pony tails or sun glasses to hold back hair.
5. Wash only with Keratin Complex Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner.
This is why I recently gave away my Schwarzkopf Zero Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner. Only sulfate free hair care products for me. My hair has since been way softer and I can actually brush my fingers through it without hitch. Something I have not done in a very, very long time.
I actually had my doubts initially since I have also read some reviews about these kinds of treatment contain harsh chemicals like formalin. I have read that Coppola Smoothing Treatment is formaldehyde free. It’s scary how stuff used for aesthetics nowadays are laden with chemicals that technically belong to a composter. When I read this review about a girl who had Brazilian Blow Out done (used another brand) and her hair went falling off from the third day after the treatment – when she shampooed her hair. That did not happen to me, so that was a relief.
Coppola Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner, P980 each
Richard told me that this treatment should last me around five months. For my hair length, the salon’s published rate is P9,000 but I got a discount, I only paid P6,500 for the treatment and an additional P1,980 for the Coppola Shampoo and Conditioner. Yes, some birthday treat. At least my hair got to happily breathe after a long while of being so brittle and badly damaged.
And what do you know, I got to score a photo op with Henri Calayag himself! Henri Calayag has a team of excellent staff – from Roselle who assisted Richard, Verna who did my nails and Richard himself. What I love about this Keratin Smoothing Treatment is that I can actually make a bun of my hair and it is in no danger of taking a certain awkward shape as it would if it was rebonded or straightened. It comes right back after shampoo. The Coppola Keratin Smoothing Treatment is not exactly the cheapest procedure but it is something to consider if your hair is as badly damaged as how mine used to be.

how was your hair after the treatment? how did it last??
Cristina, admittedly it only lasted a good couple of months. I think, whatever treatment you call anything, for as long as they use chemicals, it is still bound to damage your hair. I have had it with rebonding or this keratin whatchamacallit. But hair treatments, I don’t think I can let go altogether. For one, I decided to have my hair permed last month when my natural waves started coming out. 🙂
Hi! I read a lot of good reviews about that salon. May I ask on how did you get a discount by that time? Thank you!
Hello Dianne! They just had an going promo of some sort that time. Thus, the discount. 🙂
