Liquid Castile Soaps by Casa de Lorenzo

Because of the scarcity of liquid castile soaps we have locally, I was stuck for years using Dr. Bronner’s Magic Pure Castile Soaps, which are only available in Healthy Options. Whenever I went to visit Healthy Options, I always secretly wished that a local counterpart will be available. I knew if there were,  castile soaps need not be as pricey.
Casa Lorenzo Castile Soap

Imagine this soaper’s delight (if you have been following me on Instagram (@jenaspacio) you must have seen that I have been into castile soap making myself), when I was contacted by Casa de Lorenzo, a very local brand, offering to send me their products for me to try out! As much as I would have loved to get into full blast manufacturing my castile soap, mass producing it is not really a priority right now. So learning that castile soap loving people like me actually have options besides Dr. Bronner’s is such a refreshing change.

Casa Lorenzo Calamansi Manila Castile Soap

Casa de Lorenzo Calamansi Liquid Castile Soap (Manila)
Water, Saponified Philippine Virgin Coconut Oil, Saponified Rice Bran Oil, Saponified Palm Oil and Philippine Essential Oils.

Only natural ingredients from natural products indigent to the Philippines are added to Casa de Lorenzo Manila Castile Soap. We combined the cleaning power of Virgin Coconut Oil Soap, the Moisturizing properties of Rice Bran Oil Soap and the lathering effect of Palm Oil Soap in one bottle. Added with Essential Oils from plants and flowers natively found in the Philippines, it is a delightful mix to surprise your senses.

But of course, I had to try Casa de Lorenzo for a couple of weeks at least, to be sure if the quality can at least be considered at par. I have used both Lavender and Peppermint variants of Dr. Bronner’s, so when Casa de Lorenzo included a unique variant, they interestingly called, Manila (Calamansi), I just had to try this out first from the batch.

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Pure Castile Liquid Soaps

One of the many precious finds I have from Healthy Options is this –Dr. Bronner’s Magic Pure Castile Liquid Soap. My favorite being, Lavender. Too bad the biggest they have it is in this size. At least from the Healthy Options branches I have visited so far. The bigger the bottle, the more savings I get. I honestly have not found a soap, whether solid or liquid that is better than Dr. Bronner’s Magic soaps. It’s just that, they don’t really come very cheap.

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Pure Castile Liquid Soap in 240ml retails for P495. That’s the price I last got it for, at least. I noticed the last time I bought my Apple Cider Vinegar supply from Healthy Options at The Fort, they hiked a lot of the prices up. Not sure if the hike applies to all products they sell.

Here is what I love most about Dr. Bronner’s soaps – all natural ingredients!  A combination of organic extra virgin coconut, olive, jojoba and hemp oils, together with pure essential oils, creates a unique soap that cleans effectively without being aggressive and produces a velvety-lather that leaves the skin silky-smooth and refreshed. Unlike most “organic products” that are sold locally, Dr. Bronner’s soaps are completely biodegradable and vegetable-based.

Made with Certified Fair Trade and Organic Oils
Multi-Purpose: 18-in-1 Uses
No Synthetic Foaming Agents, Thickeners or Preservatives

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap’s Peppermint Fragrance is the most popular fragrance of Dr. Bronner’s soap line. The peppermint essential oil tingles the body and clears the mind. It has its own therapeutic abilities on its own. I’d say this is perfect for our very humid weather. I love the fresh and minty after bath feel that it gives.

The Lavender fragrance is designed for the tired and stressed out souls. It effectively calms the nerves as it never fails to soothe my body every single bath. This makes bathing so much fun! It is my perfect bathing essential just before bedtime.

Beauty Product Feature: Sugar Scrub by Amethy #SugarScrubByAmethy

I love soaps. That is if we’re pertaining to the real kind of soap – castile. Since I started making my own soap, I’ve become picky with soaps. Because really, most “commercial soaps” are made primarily of detergent and you won’t want to bathe with that, would you? Aside from that, if it’s not castile, it’s probably boring. That’s just this soaper’s personal thoughts. I also love scrubs. In fact, I never appreciated going to spas unless it comes with a body scrub. So when Sugar Scrub by Amethy sent this tub of bathing essential, I was more than thrilled. I love using coffee grounds for body scrub and this minty flavored one sure looked to me was most fitting for the season. 🙂

Wen Cleansing Conditioner: 2 Months in and Still Loving it!

As I have previously announced last April, Wen Cleansing Conditioner is officially out in the market. Yay! Gotta love SLS/SLES-Free Shampoos, or for this matter, Cleansing Conditioner, which is essentially similar to what we got used to calling Shampoo and Conditioner in one. But then again, Wen is a league entirely different since this is the kick-ass type, with its 5-in-1 formula that includes:

  1. Shampoo
  2. Conditioner
  3. Deep Conditioner
  4. Detangler
  5. Leave-in Conditioner

Our Wen Cleansing Conditioner just claimed its rightful spot on our tub. 🙂

Wen Shampoo

Wen Cleansing Conditioner Pomegranate right off the box

It is a good thing that ever since I started making my own Castile Soap and Shampoo, I have kinda sorta psyched my family to not fall dependent on the fallacy that lather translates to cleansing. Truth be told, lather almost always equals to harsh ingredients. I kid you not! The stripping of our hairs natural oils is what our usual commercial shampoos do. Wen Cleansing Conditioner does not merely do deep conditioning and all the nice things to your hair, it also keeps the hair color intact.  (more…)

Learning More About Amway and Direct Selling

The very first brand that made an impression on me during our first year of marriage was Amway. As a noob in taking care of my own household back in 2001, I was not exactly the most confident since I have gotten used to everything that I need taken cared of before I was married. I did find myself experimenting on brands but it was only Amway that I remember to this day that made life fairly easier as a newbie homemaker. True story.

Amway Home L.O.C.Amway Home L.O.C. (Liquid Organic Concentrate)

Enter Amyway Home L.O.C. – exactly the product I speak of. Although it was packaged differently, it is the same brand I first used some 12 years back. I just love its being versatile as I can use it practically across every corner of our home – from floors to bathroom, to the kitchen, every other nook. Cleaning is a breeze, I do not need to sweat it — literally. Of course, with my love to everything natural, it contains no harmful chemicals. Because I also take care of myself (I would be no kikay if I don’t) and I am not apologizing for it, I love it best because it is gentle enough as a hand cleanser.  🙂

amway products

As I have recently met with Amway Philippines’ Country Manager, Ms. Leni Olmedo, I have learned that Amway has been around since 1959 and the L.O.C. is one of their pioneering products and has been around since the brand started.

In the Philippines alone, Amway has six (6) distributor centers where their more than 60,000 Independent Business Owners can get a hold of their products.

Artistry Youth Xtend Softening Lotion and Rich Cleansing Foam

If there is anything I have been curious about Amway, it is their facial skincare and colour cosmetics line, Artistry. Now, I will get to try and jumpstart with these two Artistry products.

Amway Carnival Silk Eau de Cologne for Women

Amway also has a fragrance line – Carnival. Carnival contains fragrance oils from France and contains higher oil percentage than regular fragrances which make them last longer. I am personally loving the fun smell of this particular scent. I have quite a collection of fragrances and I don’t usually approve of them if my choosy olfactory nerves don’t agree. 🙂

While we all know that there are hundreds of brands out there, another thing that Amway is proud is their concentration story.  It is with pride that they vouch for their products as concentrate on concentration. Meaning, they pack every product  in such a way that consumers get the most value for their money. Unlike other readily available commercial products that are high on fillers, water and other extender ingredients. For someone who has been using their multi-purpose home cleaner (which I alternate with my very own formulation of liquid castile soap concoction) for close to 12 years now, I can personally vouch for this. Only a capful makes me 5 full liters of cleaning agent. Can we get more practical than that?

Amway makes sure it strictly complies with the Direct Selling Association of the Philippines’ (DSAP) 8 Point Test which differentiates a legit Direct Selling company from those that are otherwise considered as pyramiding scamming ones. Amway Country Manager, Ms. Olmedo belives that direct selling will continue to expand and that Beauty and Personal Care will remain the largest category in direct selling.

With our current “Wellness Generation” leaning towards organic and natural products, I personally believe that Amway products has quite an edge especially since the brand has proven its quality over the years.

Healthy Options love!

So I have been frequenting Healthy Options for a while now but I have not really been sharing a lot of my discoveries. For some reason, they have piled up one after the other that I simply just let my laziness to blog get the better of me.

The inspiration now came from my logging in to my Healthy Options account and finding out that I’m 36 points away to being a Gold Card Member! Wooohooohoo!!!! Our family has been getting hold of our organic supplies from Healthy Options for sometime now. I am slowly but surely, transitioning our home to “organic.” As geeky as that may sound, I really would rather not have anything to do with parabens, sls/sles and all those crap.  So far, our bathroom is 99% organic. Which is a great start. Oh well, I have been in this “starting” business for years now. But hey, organic stuff aren’t cheap. So there.

A few of my Healthy Options beauty products staples:  Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel, Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque, Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap 18-in-1 Hemp Lavender Pure Castile made with organic oils,  Dessert Essence Jojoba Oil, Alba Botanica Un-Petroleium Plant Powered Lip Care w/ SPF18 Lip Balm in Cherry, Alba Botanica Terra Tints in Bloom SPF8.
