Artist Nadine Ibay at the NMI Art Gallery

Artist Nadine Ibay

Alongside some media friends, I recently attended the launch of NMI Art Gallery, named after the abstract artist herself, Nadine M. Ibay.

21-year-old abstract artist Nadine loves traveling, and indulges in her various interests as she continuously develops her craft. This young artist recently held her first solo exhibit, which was a huge success, at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati City last 2017.

An adherent to the principles of Eclecticism, Nadine admires the principles of Gustav Klimt and Banksy, two contrasting artists from different eras known for their private life and highly personal styles of art. In the antithesis of elements found in her painting amidst the vivid array of colors on her canvas, Nadine strives to develop her own style of art born from her own principles as inspired by the great masters before her.

Title: Love It If We Made It (Arylic Mixed Media)

She has an unrelenting thirst for inspiration and finds creative influence in the splendor of nature, and the complexity found in the lyrics and melody of a song. This young artist is the embodiment of her own art—from the jewelry she wears to the antique pieces and crystals she collects,Nadine transforms the numinous realms of meditation and dreams into the reality of her paintings.

GALLERY

NMI Art Gallery houses contemporary modern artworks. Freshly established in 2018 and run by the artist herself—Nadine Ibay has broken the odds of putting up her own gallery, showing an art independence remarkable for her youth. Nadine’s paintings are filled with bold identity and vivid imagery that stimulate its audiences and move them to pleasant and positive moods—showcasing a combination of enchanting colors molded from the artistry of the mystical world. Within the enveloping white walls, her art is a collection of dimensions and a mixture of forms where each painting is a mirror of emotions showing the authenticity of every art piece; an invitation to an experimental adventure to a lifestyle of flowing passion, spontaneous connection, and pure excitement.

ART

As an artist, Nadine seeks balance in the duality of the world through the abstraction of color, of the form, of art’s own meaning. Finding inspiration from the natural world and the mystical realms, Nadine translates into visual incarnation the artistry of vision unique to her own developing style of art.

The dichotomy of her old soul is the quintessence of her art. The materials she uses—acrylic paints, spray paints, mineral pigments, gold leafs, and textured canvasses bring to life a variety of art that is only given meaning by the eyes that appreciate it. Because of her ability to translate the metaphysical into reality, her paintings are more than a splash of color, they are the personification of emotion. Nadine’s abstract art extends beyond the boundaries of her canvas and captures the attention of all who gaze upon it.

Aside from paintings, Nadine also collects crystals and antique pieces which gives a lot of people an impression that hers is an old soul that seeking for satisfaction in the current reality.

While today’s young generation is good at expressing themselves through more accessible platforms such as social media, individuals like Nadine Ibay are born in order to break the norm. It is young talents like her that provides depth and meaning to a generation that’s sometimes carried away by the superficial. Her effort to open this new gallery is in itself a great trend-twist.

The exhibit would not have been possible without the generous help of the following sponsors:

E.M Cuerpo, Davies, Columbus, Digee, R.R Encabo, GEO, DVF, Hillmarc, Bostik and 5599 Marketing. Nadine feels so grateful for all the support these sponsors have given her.

Paint-Me-A-Bag Workshops at Gateway Gallery

paint me a bag workshop (1)

Gateway Gallery offers another creative pursuit this summer under the Artsy Workshop banner, a program that started in 2015.  The art workshop gives kids and teens, aged 8 to 16 years old, the chance to learn painting, using bags as material under the mentorship of one of the most passionate artists today, Ginny Guanco. The Paint Me A Bag Workshop happens on May 26Saturday, from 1 to 5 pm at the Gateway Gallery. It is open to all boys and girls who are inclined to the arts, especially those who have not taken up any formal art lessons. It is an inspiring introductory activity that will thrill the students as the end-product is a mobile art that can be used by the student.

The paint-a-bag workshop is the first of its kind to be offered by Gateway Gallery. In the half day workshop, Artist Ginny Guanco will guide the young ones on the rudiments of basic drawing, shading and of adding highlights on the design using motifs that appeal to the young.  She will also guide them on the proper painting techniques on fabric bags and develop their confidence in branching out to other clothing items such as t-shirts, denims, jackets and even sneakers. Boho in a Solo by Ginny Guanco: An exhibit featuring hippie chic as art

Ginny Guanco’s figures for her painting exhibit at the Galerie Y in SM Megamall are what can be described as a Bohemian’s rhapsody. The art show, which features all-female subjects, opens on September 15. Of the 32 colorful paintings of women, 26 of these are clad in classic boho chic designs in a bow to the artist’s roots as a full-bloomed flower child in the 70s.

Even in her growing up years, Ginny’s inclination to art was already very evident. In school, she participated in art contests. It was no surprise that after graduating high school from the College of the Holy Spirit in Mendiola, Fine Arts was the course she chose at  the University of Sto. Tomas.  As an artist immersed in her era, she believed in the message of peace, love, joy, and happiness against a backdrop of rock music and hippie art. “I was also really into bohemian fashion then as much as I am now. I did not outgrow my fashion taste, because I feel that it fits my personality and represents who I really am.” (more…)

Deprivation and Meditation: Sudden Flight Series at the Picasso Abstract Painter Chiqui Rodriguez

Filipino abstract painter, Chiqui Rodriguez announces her major new series entitled SUDDEN FLIGHT, her solo show to be held in Zurich by late summer will have its preview opening in a two-man show at the Picasso Boutique Serviced Residences, hosted by Altromondo Gallery on 22 May 2014 and continuing through 18 July 2014.

The 15 selected paintings from a total of over 100 works that comprise the SUDDEN FLIGHT series, awash in vibrant color, are sure to dazzle visitors to the Picasso Boutique Serviced Residences. Chiqui’s unique approach to blending acrylic pigments on canvas creates gem-like surfaces. Peering through the surface to what is depicted below, the viewer realizes that all is not as glowing as it first appears. Chiqui is noted for her deep abstraction of complex realism.

Chiqui also explores a complex subject; her work calls attention to our culture’s thought of hardwork. Much of Chiqui’s artwork is influenced by her experience in the corporate world. Through this new body of work, she connects hardwork to social class as a form of meditation.

Says Chiqui of her SUDDEN FLIGHT series, “I was inspired by my short trip to Brussels after a show held in Berlin in 2013. I arrived with the intent of finding an artist who would be willing to collaborate with me in my upcoming projects, so I started to look around. Instead of finding an artist, I found some Filipinos who work around the city. My interaction with them in a different environment led to varied conversations about how challenging life is to be away from their love ones but nevertheless find solace knowing that their families benefit from their sacrifice. I started on my e-sketchpad and started to express my thoughts after this encounter. The title ‘Sudden Flight’ refers to several layers of meaning: sudden burst of happiness, excitement as reaching out lives of far-flung Filipinos extending compassion, a moment of bliss.”

The show plans to bring forward awareness on the inner thoughts of Overseas Filipino Workers.

About the Artist:

Chiqui Rodriguez

Chiqui Rodriguez enjoys telling people how she started as an artist. It kicked-off one morning discussing the paintings she had been working on back in 2003 while having coffee with her long-time confidante.
