Back at the @SkinHouseBeauty for my GentleMax Underarm Laser Hair Removal Treatment

During my first visit to the Skin House Beauty and Laser Clinic last January, the clinic’s very friendly nurse Tricia, who took care of me during both of my visits, briefed me what laser hair removal was all about.  She said that it doesn’t look like I have a need yet for skin tightening. I chose the preventive laser skin tightening still plainly because I was plenty hesitant to have photos of my pits go rounding up in the worldwide web. Not that I stand a chance of overriding Madonna and her infamous armpit Instagram post that  recently gone viral. Haha!

Before and After Underarm Laser Hair Removal

A-ha! Not my pits right there just yet. Above image is courtesy of Syneron Candela, the maker of the GentleMax Pro machine that was used on me. Unlike other laser hair removal machines, GentleMax Pro has a patented Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) that provides consistent, epidermal cooling and unparalleled comfort for the patients. GentleMax Pro is FDA approved for permanent hair reduction.

Benefits of Underarm Laser Hair Removal:

  • Hair removal
  • Pseudofolliculitis Barbae (PFB)
  • Skin tightening and wrinkle reduction

In all honesty, what totally sold me to get this Underarm Laser Hair Removal finally done after much self-deliberation, is my underarm’s susceptibility towards developing “folliculitis,” aside from the obvious of not having to shave anymore.  The folliculitis occurrence got so bad that the doctor I saw some few years back advised not just against plucking and waxing but shaving altogether! Yikes! Now, I never dreamed of pulling off a Madonna-pits stunt any day. When Tricia mentioned that the UA Laser Hair Removal is able to address this issue, I didn’t need any more convincing.  And regarding that doctor’s advice, nope, I don’t always follow doctor’s orders. Haha! But I had to forego plucking and waxing, which last longer than shaving. Inconvenient really, but I really have got not much of a choice…

Product Feature: Joy with a Touch of Olay

I totally love P&G’s newly launched dishwashing product – Joy with a Touch of Olay. Precisely because it nurtures my badly harassed skin whenever I do the dishes. For this reason, I can easily even tag this wonder of a product in the skin care category just because it takes care of my skin like I want it too. Imagine doing the chores that can otherwise dry your skin yet my skin feels moisturized. While some would suggest wearing gloves while doing their chores, I’m just not too comfy with it. Yes, as beauty-loving blogger as I am, I try my best to take care of myself too while I do my usual everyday domestic chores.

Joy with a Touch of Olay helps maintain skin’s moisture,
making it all set for “touching moments.”

Dishwashing, ironing, doing the laundry and cleaning the house. Imagine doing all these things every single day, on top of your demanding career. This is tough love. As we celebrate women’s month, lives and experiences of women are given more importance and thought. This includes the challenges of women everywhere when it comes to doing household chores.

On March 5 at the Blue Leaf- Silk Pavilion in Taguig, the trials of housework are highlighted and refreshed through Tough Love, an event that placed Mariel Rodriguez and members of the media in “tough” household situations, but with the aid of Joy with a Touch of Olay, a new dishwashing variant of P&G Joy.

Dishwashing can be a draining task. Just imagine coming home from a tiring day at work, seeing piles of plates on the sink, and getting your hands wrinkled and dry from cleaning the dishes. Joy with a Touch of Olay is especially formulated to help maintain the skin’s moisture while retaining the superior grease-fighting power of all Joy variants. It locks in moisture to create moments of pampering as one does chores.

The Benefits of Skin Care Products

The best and most useful kind of beauty products you can invest in is a good skin care regime. Skin products provide a multitude of benefits that many people may not even be aware of, and it’s never too late to start taking good care of your skin.

Better Texture

Using a daily skin cream provides the added moisture needed to replace that which is lost each day due to various reasons. Particularly in the winter time when dry heat can strip skin of moisture, you’ll want to be sure to use a moisturizer at least once each day.

Firmer Skin

As we age, our skin begins to sag and become less firm or taut. A good anti-aging skin care regime can help fight the signs of aging such as sagging by adding much-needed proteins to your skin.

@ProactivWorks Skin Care Advisor Program

Can I just say I am impressed with Proactiv as they recently launched their Skin Care Advisor program? I called their Trinoma shop and was able to speak with Jean, their in-house Skin Care Advisor. I had a question I needed answered with the recent cystic acne that developed in my right cheek. For some reason it embedded itself and did not come out with the acne that was on the surface. She answered every single question I had and I am delighted to be given practical answer to my concern.
Proactiv’s Skin Care Advisor program was recently launched with the goal to give the best information to Proactiv customers. I am not surprised that Jean knew exactly how to answer my concerns because apparently Proactiv’s Skin Care Advisors are not like your ordinary sales representative. They are trained and have undergone the same training module created by Doctors Rodan and Fields. Even if I only called to ask about my acne concern, I was met with a pleasant tone and in a very accommodating manner.

GentleYag Laser Treatment by @SkinHouseBeauty and Laser Clinic

Last weekend, I finally got the chance to have some pampering time for myself. It was way overdue and I thought it might as well be a treatment that will jumpstart my skin improvement journey.

It was my first time to visit SkinHouse Beauty and Laser Clinic and I finally got to meet Gretha who explained to me the Gentle Yag Laser Treatment procedure that I was there for.

Laser skin tightening is a unique facial rejuvenation option that produces dramatic results. It effectively reduces the appearance of wrinkles and loose skin for a smoother and more youthful appearance. As gravity and the aging process naturally take place, the skin loses its elasticity and youthful appearance. This treatment may offer an alternative to, or help supplement a surgical facelift. It is a safe, effective way to lessen the effects of time.

Laser skin tightening helps with improving fine wrinkles and lines on the face without prolonged “downtime”. The effect is often referred to as non-invasive collagen remodeling.

I was actually choosing between Laser Hair Removal and Laser Skin Tightening.  I also wanted to do away with having to shave my underarms every so often, so the former was very tempting. But since I was blogging about this, I couldn’t bring myself to think I would have to post images of my pits. Haha! Besides, I also  would love to do something about my laugh lines that are threatening to further embed around my poor mouth prematurely.  Now that I think about it, I believe it’s a facial feature passed down to us because my mom’s laugh lines have been pretty prominent too even at her young age. Plus I kind of give in to laughing whenever. With homeschooling my corny and giggly 8 year old son for 4 years now, can you really blame me?  🙂

The GentleYag laser treatment started off with facial cleansing. (more…)

“The Doctors’ Secrets to a Lifetime of Clear Skin” by Drs. Katie Rodan and Kathy Fields

With the four other books I am currently simultaneously reading (okay, not exactly simultaneous, but you know what I mean) is “The Doctors’ Secrets to a Lifetime of Clear Skin” by Drs. Katie Rodan and Kathy Fields, a coffee table like booklet packed with wisdom on how to care for our skin. Very practical and easy to read.

The skin care tips and wisdom come in 30 bullets straight from the Stanford-trained dermatologist genius who revolutionized the treatment of acne by creating Proactiv Solution.

The Doctor's Secret to a Lifetime of Clear Skin

“The Doctors’ Secrets to a Lifetime of Clear Skin” by Drs. Katie Rodan and Kathy Fields comes FREE with every purchase of Proactiv 30-day or 60-day kit from Watsons, SM Department Stores, Proactiv mall kiosks, and Proactiv door-to-door delivery. The book is included in the kit.

DSC00672The tips on how to have acne free skin were thrown out in a fun way that makes it plenty easier to get a grasp of than actually read a book with hardcore principles to dwell on. I have yet to see an easier read on skin care, seriously.

Physiogel Extraordinary Moisture for Extraordinary Women

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As we increase the awareness of the disease, I was encouraged a great deal with the recent event I attended where Physiogel took in three extraordinary women to be brand ambassadresses of the brand.

Michee Cadhit, Patty Balquiedra, Alya Honasan

Aside from the obvious reasons why we need to campaign the awareness of Breast Cancer – its early detection and for women with the disease to muster up the courage towards the necessary steps for cure, getting a hold of the women who “have been there” and are “currently there,” will get the concerned women to listen up and be empowered.

Is your skin moisturized enough?

For those who have been following this page for sometime know that I was never big on lotions and more than 1-step regimens. I am lazy like that. Last week, I had a taste of one of its repercussions, if I may call it that – a proof of having dry skin. It also did not help that I use a lot of alcohol based sanitizer several times during the day. In fact, I just had my hand sanitized moments before this moisture check.

A reading of 24.7 via this nifty Moisture Checker gadget at the Physiogel event I recently attended tells that my skin is not moisturized enough.

I scored “Low” (20.1-29.9) – Skin barrier needs help as moisture escapes easily. Repair is needed to prevent moisture loss and promote healthy, smoother, younger looking skin. For even better results, make sure you use a hypoallergenic soap-free cleanser.

Apparently, dry and sensitive skin is not a very uncommon problem. In fact,  one in three or 35 percent of women have dry skin but don’t realize that they do.  Women can easily get dry skin from exposure to the environment. But even if they’re not under harsh weather conditions, other factors such as stress, air conditioning, smoking, bathing in hot water and using soap can contribute to destroying the natural moisture balance of the skin, making it rougher and more sensitive. Skin may also have a dehydrated or shrunken appearance while simultaneously feeling tight and itchy.

Moving On: My (Shin) Scar Story

I blog about lifestyle and beauty and I am a klutz. A line that sounds a lot like one of those AA session introductions. The only difference is that, getting handed with one of those shiny medallion chips or sobriety coins for having made it a month from not tripping or getting a booboo, for me, is far fetched. To cut the long story short, let’s just say, I trip, hit my elbow or whatever on a daily basis. It is something I have kind of gotten used to and have grown to live with.

I have also noticed that my tripping incidents become so close together  when my hormones go berserk during my time of the month. PMS does this to me. Minor bruises, trip here and there are my usual route.

But nothing has quite prepared me for something like this – photo taken June 2011 (1 week old Shin Scar)

Because I would like to consider myself to be a reasonable person, I try to figure out why I klutz away through my daily grind. I surmise that it has a lot to do with my being an action person. Because I tend to follow through on what I think of doing, I oftentimes get ahead of myself and there goes the accidents I most often have to deal with. Ouch!

Nothing major as my shin skin scraping off that night in June 2011. It was crazy painful! But I am actually thankful enough that I was wearing PJs then. Else, I could have scraped myself to the bone! Yikes! And that was right inside our very own backyard.

Here’s much I can tell, for a moment there, I really felt like I saw stars and birds circling my head on impact. It happened during the time when the rain was pouring hard. So screaming for help wouldn’t have done me any good. It was also too owie to let out a scream! I struggled to get up and helped myself as I limped my way back to the house. It was crazy for me to go out and walk in the dark anyway. What was I thinking!

I am not surprised to find out that my accidents are not particularly limited to the four corners of the house. Apparently, a klutz is designed to have this innate ability to tumble, trip and tumble all over again regardless of my location – for as long as the pull of gravity is present. Above is an instagram post I uploaded April of last year when my family and I were in Vietnam. For lack of heart of posting a photo of my scraped knee right above the shin that was scraped just the year before, I just uploaded a photo of the solution we bought from a local Saigon drugstore. I was taking photos (as any tourist would) along 23/9 Park in District 1 of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, when I totally lost my balance for no reason. I don’t think anyone can be klutzier than that.

scars quotes

And with the hope that the odds of tripping in a foreign land might not be that high, I did not arm myself with any sort of first aid anything (so irresponsible- I know!). We were only visiting Vietnam and Cambodia for a little over a week, for one anyway. You see, even a klutz can hope. The sting from that Vietnamese Providone-Iodine solution I got hold of that day, made me promise to myself, that I will never assume or presume, let alone hope. Yes, the sting was pretty bad.

Liquid Castile Soaps by Casa de Lorenzo

Because of the scarcity of liquid castile soaps we have locally, I was stuck for years using Dr. Bronner’s Magic Pure Castile Soaps, which are only available in Healthy Options. Whenever I went to visit Healthy Options, I always secretly wished that a local counterpart will be available. I knew if there were,  castile soaps need not be as pricey.
Casa Lorenzo Castile Soap

Imagine this soaper’s delight (if you have been following me on Instagram (@jenaspacio) you must have seen that I have been into castile soap making myself), when I was contacted by Casa de Lorenzo, a very local brand, offering to send me their products for me to try out! As much as I would have loved to get into full blast manufacturing my castile soap, mass producing it is not really a priority right now. So learning that castile soap loving people like me actually have options besides Dr. Bronner’s is such a refreshing change.

Casa Lorenzo Calamansi Manila Castile Soap

Casa de Lorenzo Calamansi Liquid Castile Soap (Manila)
Water, Saponified Philippine Virgin Coconut Oil, Saponified Rice Bran Oil, Saponified Palm Oil and Philippine Essential Oils.

Only natural ingredients from natural products indigent to the Philippines are added to Casa de Lorenzo Manila Castile Soap. We combined the cleaning power of Virgin Coconut Oil Soap, the Moisturizing properties of Rice Bran Oil Soap and the lathering effect of Palm Oil Soap in one bottle. Added with Essential Oils from plants and flowers natively found in the Philippines, it is a delightful mix to surprise your senses.

But of course, I had to try Casa de Lorenzo for a couple of weeks at least, to be sure if the quality can at least be considered at par. I have used both Lavender and Peppermint variants of Dr. Bronner’s, so when Casa de Lorenzo included a unique variant, they interestingly called, Manila (Calamansi), I just had to try this out first from the batch.
